Senator Meets with Wisconsin Conservative Newspaper Editors

In an unprecedented show of openness and support of Wisconsin's growing network of alternative media sources, Senator Ron Johnson shared an hour and a half of his afternoon on Jan. 6 with members of three conservative newspaper publications. With Steve Welcenbach of Reality News, Bob Dohnal of Wisconsin Conservative Digest and Tom Wolff of Freedom Weekly, the Senator discussed many aspects of the current political landscape and the media interactions with it.

Senator Johnson, who defeated threeterm incumbent Russ Feingold in 2010 despite no previous political experience, brought his accountant background and entrepreneurial experience with him to Washington. He is busily applying that unique skill set to the problems facing our country.

Johnson has displayed leadership uncharacteristic of freshman Senators, particularly with regard to the national debt, deficit and the myriad of dire fiscal issues facing our country. He heads up a group called America's Choice along with support from fellow freshman Senator Rob Portman of Ohio. This group formed with the goal to clearly define the difference in approaches between the two political parties and articulate these difference effectively and comprehensively to all Americans. A summary chart of their message and a dramatic accountant's analysis of our country's fiscal situation is shown below.

Johnson held tough on the raising of the debt ceiling, a reflection of the Tea Party and Patriot group support which helped propel him to his electoral upset of Feingold. He proclaimed his reasoning for this position on many news shows and other media outlets.

This staunch adherence to principle has helped bridge some of the lukewarm support from the constitutional conservatives due to his embrace of the Patriot Act, though his latest vote supporting the "detainee" provisions in the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012 (NDAA) is largely in conflict with the prevailing outlook of both constitutional conservatives and the Tea Party.

While financial analysis may be in Johnson's intellectual wheelhouse, he connects these problems with the other issues and policies which have led us to this fiscal cliff. Domestic energy policy, punitive taxation, Obamacare, rogue agencies like the EPA and the Department of Justice and the enormous size of government are all areas that need dramatic revision.

Refreshingly, Johnson has acknowledged his limited technical understanding in many subject areas driving these difficulties, such as the most current scientific data and analyses of carbon dioxide on the Earth's climate system and UN initiatives for world government including Agenda 21 and International Baccalaureate educational curriculum. He has instructed his staff to gather credible resources in these areas to help him expand his knowledge of these elements.

Senator Johnson has already made a significant impact on the US Senate. His supporting constituents anticipate that this engagement will continue and he will become a key element of the coalition of legislators actually implementing real solutions to the real fiscal problems of entitlement, regulatory and tax reform.

Johnson has committed himself and his staff to regularly communicate to his Wisconsin constituents and supporters through the young alternative conservative media rapidly developing in Wisconsin. Look for ongoing commentary from
